Lyrics

my dear saggy, pruney old granny
is dying in the living room
The ambulance came and took her away to the hospital in the city.
The hospital in the city is damp, crusty and rusty

The doctor told me to wait and behave
but I did not heed his words.
Instead I wandered through the hollow halls.
Curiosity lead me into the staff only room

I saw crates stacked up so high
It was a most curious sight
So I opened one and then to my surprise

I saw...
Vegetables! Carrots, garlics and chards!
Cabbages, pumpkins, lettuce and peas!

Something feels wrong there's a chill in my spine
But before I could figure it out
Footsteps clacking grew louder
...and louder!

I ran down the hall in a panic
Saw each dying patient as I ran
Like slides in a show I witnessed it all
Was a kafkan metamorphosis

Senile and literal vegetables
My granny's a broccoli
I thought on the ride home, wide-eyed and disturbed
Dreading tonight's salad dinner

My mind swoops on back to the hospital halls
Curiosity lead me into the staff only room
Saw crates stacked up so high
It was a most curious sight

So I took a closer look and inside I saw
I saw...!

Vegetables! Endives, beetroots and maize!
Celeries, aubergines, gingers and leeks!

I see wrinkly faces in the green leafy mess
I told my parents what I saw
But they did not believe me and told me to shut up
And eat...
My broccoli
