Japanese | Romaji | English |
| akari ga, tou, tou. | The lights are, overflowing, overflowing. |
| anata no uso demo ii kara. | Even if everything is just a lie of yours, |
| misete. | Please, show me. |
| “sore kara, kurai ame ga tsuzuite, minna nemutte shimatta.” | “And so, everyone slept as the dark rain continued to fall.” |
ビール瓶に隠していた種は底をついて、 | biiru bin ni kakushite ita tane wa soko o tsuite, | The seeds that I was hiding within the beer bottle are running out, |
| tasuke mo zenzen konai mitai desu. | And it looks like nothing will be coming to my aid. |
蟲が煙と踊っているのをみるのは少し申し訳なくて、 | mushi ga kemuri to odotte iru no o miru no wa sukoshi moushiwakenakute, | Although the bugs dancing along with the smoke were somewhat of a sorry sight, |
おじいさんは空を見ながら、 | ojiisan wa sora o mi nagara, | I heard the old man saying, “It will rain again today.” |
| “kyou mo ame ga furu.” to iu no o kikimashita. | As he was looking up at the sky. |
| “tsugi no sekai de wa kitto tanoshii koto ga matte iru to omoimasu.” | “I’m sure that the next world will have good things waiting for us.” |
| kurikaeshi annai suru kikai no heitai wa, ittai doko kara umarete kuru no deshou ka. | I wondered how those mechanical soldiers that had said such again and again had been born. |
| A baby is always being told lies as it’s being raised. |
| sore wa, watashitachi no me ga, itsumademo samenai you ni. | That's right, we’re always wishing for our eyes to never wake. |
| watashitachi no yume ga, itsumademo yaburenai you ni. | We’re always wishing for our dreams to never break. |
| ojiisan wa kyou mo tsuchi o kabuseru no deshou. | I’m sure, that old man must be buried under the ground right now, too. |
| “shinda ningen wa shinda ningen ga warui no da.” | “Those who are dead have only themselves to blame.” |
| The beer bottle has already been cracked in two, but everyone is singing along amiably. |
私はもう起き上がれなくて、 | watashi wa mou okiagarenakute, | And as for me, I can no longer get up, |
| tasuke mo zenzen konai mitai desu. | And it looks like nothing will be coming to my aid. |
そんな、 | sonna, | And that’s, |
| kudaranai douwa ga suki da. | The kind of meaningless fairy tale that I love. |
誰も救えないような、 | dare mo sukuenai you na, | The kind where no-one is saved, |
| nani mo kaerarenai you na. | The kind where nothing can be changed. |
夕暮れになったら、 | yuugure ni nattara, | When evening comes by, |
| mata hanashi o shiyou. | Let’s talk about that old story[1] again. |
| akari ga tou, tou. | The lights are, overflowing, overflowing. |
| watashi no sei demo ii kara. | Even if everything is all my fault, |
| itsuka. | Please. Tell me about your dreams.[2] |

Translation Notes
- ↑ 昔の話をする can mean either “to talk about (events from) the past” or “to tell a story from the past”.
- ↑ Parts of the written poem aren’t actually verbally sung in the song itself. This is most prominent in the final verse of the song, where the last sentence “貴方の夢を聞かせて” (“Tell me about your dreams”) isn’t actually sung.
