Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Japanese Romaji English
まだ 見つからないの 砂が流れ落ちてく mada mitsukaranai no suna ga nagareochiteku I still can't find it; the sand continues to flow.
単純な答えがあるならば硝子の色を壊せたのかな tanjun na kotae ga aru naraba garasu no iro o kowaseta no kana If there was a simple answer, I wonder if I could have broken the colored glass?

なぜ 逃げ出せないの 扉に挟まれてる naze nigedasenai no tobira ni hasamareteru Why can't I run away? I'm caught in the door.
残念の塊集めては積み木のよに重ねる退屈 zannen no katamari atsumete wa tsumiki no yo ni kasaneru taikutsu Gathering the lumps of regret is as boring as stacking a pile of building blocks.

無くなった時間の連れを当てにしてもう疲れた naku natta jikan no tsure o ate ni shite mou tsukareta I got tired of relying on the time that I've lost.
どうなったって良いのよ,意味も理由も景色の中埋めて dou nattatte ii no yo, imi mo wake mo keshiki no naka uzumete I don't care what happens, for reason and meaning are buried in the scenery.

始まった 蝶番の音が独りをただ鳴らした hajimatta chōtsugai no oto ga hitori o tada narashita So it begun: The lone hinge made a creaking sound.
そうやってわたしだけ無色透明な虹を手に捕った sou yatte watashi dake mushoku toumei na niji o te ni totta And so I was the only one who caught a colorless, transparent rainbow in my hand.

環になった 台に立った 勘違ったって踊りましょうよ wa ni natta dai ni tatta kan chigattatte odorimashou yo I curled into a ball, I took to the stand, let's dance even though I was wrong.

そうしちゃった sou shichatta That's what happened.
そうしちゃったった sou shichattatta That's what ha-happened.

錆付いた声の届かない箱の中 sabitsuita koe no todokanai hako no naka In a rusty box that no voice could reach,
玩具の兵隊さんから硝子の靴を投げつけられて, omocha no heitai-san kara garasu no kutsu o nagetsukerarete, A toy soldier had its glass shoes thrown away,

割れちゃった。 warechatta. And they broke.

ばらばらの音が痛みをまた照らした barabara no oto ga itami o mata terashita The clattering sound brought the pain into the spotlight again.
もう嫌って話から積み木崩しの衝動砕け散った mou iyatte hanashi kara tsumiki kuzushi no shoudou kudakechitta The talk of having had enough led to a force that smashed the pile of building blocks to smithereens.

物言わない身を人形と名付けたの mono iwanai mi o ningyou to nazuketa no They called my speechless body a doll [1]
玩具にすらなれない ただ重ねる普通の喜怒と哀楽 omocha ni sura narenai tada kasaneru futsuu no kido to airaku That can't even become a toy. Just a pile of regular joy, anger, grief and pleasure.

負けちゃった 調子のいい嘘を並べた末の夜に makechatta choushi no ii uso o narabeta sue no yoru ni I was defeated. That night after the string of sweet lies:
どうやって戻ろうか 積まれたころの姿を目に焼いた dou yatte modorou ka tsumareta koro no sugata o me ni yaita How shall I return to it? That image of stacked blocks was burnt into my eyes.

間に合った 最後だった 勘違ったって駆け込みながら ma ni atta saigo datta kanchigattatte kakekomi nagara I made it in time, it was my last time, I rushed in even though I was wrong.

どうしちゃった? dou shichatta? What has happened?
どうしちゃった? dou shichatta? What has happened?
どうしちゃった? dou shichatta? What has happened?
を繰り返すの o kurikaesu no That's what I'll repeat.

環になった 台に立った 勘違ったって踊りましょうよ wa ni natta dai ni tatta kan chigattatte odorimashou yo I curled into a ball, I took to the stand, let's dance even if I'm wrong.

そうしちゃった sou shichatta That's what happened.
そうしちゃったったった sou shichattattatta That's what ha-ha-happened.

始まった 蝶番の音が独りをただ鳴らした hajimatta choutsugai no oto ga hitori o tada narashita So it begun: The lone hinge made a creaking sound.
そうやってわたしだけ無色透明な虹を手に捕って sou yatte watashi dake mushoku toumei na niji o te ni totte And so I was the only one who caught a colorless, transparent rainbow in my hand.

壊れちゃった kowarechatta And it broke.

Translation Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. In the original Japanese lyrics, no subject nor possessive pronoun is mentioned explicitly (it literally reads "called speechless body a doll"). However, from the context of the rest of the lyrics, it is logical to assume that the subject is some other person (hence "they" in the translation) and the body belongs to the singer (hence "my" in the translation). It is also feasible to interpret the subject as the singer and the body as belonging to some other person, but this interpretation is less likely to have been intended considering the theme of the song.
