Lyrics
Japanese | Romaji | English |
やがて夢 現と成るは | yagate yume utsutsu to naru wa | The day hath finally come |
ゐつの日なるやと君は言ふ | itsu no hi naru ya to kimi wa iu | You have uttered the words I dreamt you would |
ゆふぐれの雨 冷たけれど | yuugure no ame tsumeta keredo | The twilit rain was freezing, and yet |
君の声は暖かき | kimi no koe wa atatakaki | Your voice bore such warmth |
くれなゐの唇が歌ふ | kurenai no kuchibiru ga utau | A song spills from those lips not bequeathed to me |
其はひとゑに春のやう | so wa hito e ni haru no you | And to people's minds it brings the essence of spring |
君の待てる日はゐつなりとて | kimi no materu hi wa itsu naritote | The day I have been waiting to meet you, finally it hath come |
恋のにほひに溢れたり | koi no ni o hi ni afuretari | And the scent of love is overflowing |
さうざうしさのあまり | souzoushisa no amari | There is a gaping feeling of lack |
咲きし朱金の花 | sakishi shukin no hana | The blooming flowers of vermilion |
飾らぬ心地で | kazaranu kokochi de | Cannot be used to adorn these emotions |
ゐま ゐま 乞うは蘭の街 | ima ima kou wa ran no machi[2] | And now, and now, I pray for Orchid City[3] |
あゝ恋は皐月雨 呼びて | aa koi wa samidare yobite | Ah, my love calls down an early may rain |
花を濡らしけり | hana o nurashikeri | Drenching the flowers |
夢の泉に雨は降りて | yume no izumi ni ame wa furite | It falls into the fountain of dreams |
君を咲かす | kimi o sakasu | Making you bloom |
蝶のらうたき羽にしほたるる | chou no rautaki hane ni shihotaruru | Drenched by the wings of that darling little butterfly |
雨水を掬ひ取りき | amamizu o sukui toriki | I scoop up the rainwater |
せちに思ふ 君がゐつの日か | sechi ni omou kimi ga itsu no hi ka | Deep in the bed of mine heart, I feel as if one day |
我を置きゆくかもしれぬと | ware o oki yuku kamo shirenu to | You may perhaps leave me behind |
かしがましさのあまり | kashi ga mashisa no amari | An excessive ruckus |
隠れし鈴の音が | kakureshi suzu no ne ga | Hides the chiming of a bell |
鳴り止まぬ内に | nari yamanu uchi ni | The nonstop ringing of which |
ゐま ゐま 乞うは蘭の街 | ima ima kou wa ran no machi | Hides a prayer for Orchid City |
あゝ恋は皐月雨のやうに | aa koi wa samidare no you ni | Ah, my love, like an early may rain |
泪 流るるなり | namida nagarurunari | Brings about a steady flow of tears |
夢の吐息を知りし | yume no toiki o shirishi | That butterfly skirted past the knowledge |
蝶が雨を避けき | chou ga ame o sakeki | That dreams oft' bear sighs |
とこしへに君を思ヘリ | tokoshi e ni kimi o omoeri | Your face shall linger in my mind for evermore |
この恋の枯るるはなし | kono koi no karuru hanashi | As this love story withers away |
君は皐月雨 見たり | kimi wa samidare mitari | You gaze upon the early may rain |
我は君を見たり | ware wa kimi o mitari | While I gaze upon you |
雨が上がりし頃に | ame ga agarishi koro ni | When the rainfall lifts |
東京に君は在らず | toukyou ni kimi wa arazu | You will be gone from Tokyo |
恋は皐月雨呼びて | koi wa samidare yobite | Ah, my love calls down an early may rain |
花を濡らしけり | hana o nurashikeri | Drenching the flowers |
夢の泉に雨は降りて | yume no izumi ni ame wa furite | It falls into the fountain of dreams |
君を咲かす | kimi o sakasu | Making you bloom |
恋は皐月雨呼びて | koi wa samidare yobite | My love calls down an early may rain |
眼 濡らしけり | manako nurashikeri | And wets my eyes |
あゝどうかお元気で | aa douka ogenki de | Ah, please, take care once you go. |

Translation Notes
- ↑ 697 is the angel number which brings luck to those who want their one-sided affections returned
- ↑ This is meant to sound like "Koala's March."
- ↑ Because they sound similar, I believe the 謳歌蘭街 (lit: exulting orchid city) in the title may be a reference to 桜花爛漫 (lit: cherry blossom flowers in full bloom), which is used to describe the period in late May or early April when the cherry blossoms all bloom. 蘭の街 (lit: orchid city) would then be connected to this reference, so it probably refers to a town where spring has just arrived and everything is in bloom.
