Japanese | Romaji | English |
景色を切り裂いて 景色を切り裂いて | keshiki o kirisaite keshiki o kirisaite | Cutting up the scenery, cutting up the scenery, |
可能性に急かされた君は | kanousei ni sekasareta kimi wa | You were rushed by possibilities. |
時計を気にせずに 時計を気にせずに | tokei o ki ni sezu ni tokei o ki ni sezu ni | Without caring about the clock, without caring about the clock, |
どこかで眠っているのでしょうか | dokoka de nemutte iru no deshou ka | Are you sleeping somewhere now, I wonder? |
足跡を踏み直すために | ashiato o fumi naosu tame ni | I need to receive your destination |
行き先を受け取らなきゃ | yukisaki o uketoranakya | To retread on your footprints. |
残してくれた名の前で | nokoshite kureta na no mae de | With all the names you’ve left for me, |
言葉を拾い集め 集め | kotoba o hiroi atsume atsume | I’ll collect and gather words |
いっぱいにしていく | ippai ni shite iku | To fill them to the brim. |
君が見ていた街を結んでく線に | kimi ga mite ita machi o musundeku sen ni | Can I become the line that connects |
僕はなれるかな | boku wa nareru kana | The cities you saw? |
マイペースで進む 追いつけずに止まる | maipeesu de susumu oitsukezu ni tomaru | I proceed at my own pace. I fail to catch up, and I stop. |
等身大でいいよと心のうちが教えてくれる | toushindai de ii yo to kokoro no uchi ga oshiete kureru | “It’s okay to be yourself,” my heart says to me. |
期待通りを走る僕は | kitaidoori o hashiru boku wa | Running down Kitai Avenue,[1] |
君にならなくちゃ | kimi ni naranakucha | I’ve really got to become you! |
急ぎながら進む 邪魔をされて止まる | isogi nagara susumu jama o sarete tomaru | I proceed in a hurry. I’m distracted, and I stop. |
休憩してもいいよと君を知る誰かが声をくれる | kyuukei shite mo ii yo to kimi o shiru dareka ga koe o kureru | “You can take a break,” says somebody who knows you. |
曲がりくねった線を引く | magarikunetta sen o hiku | I draw a squiggly line |
体の中を満たすように | karada no naka o mitasu you ni | As if I were filling myself up. |
前が詰まって進めない | mae ga tsumatte susumenai | Sometimes it’s packed in the front |
こともあるけど許して | koto mo aru kedo yurushite | And I can’t move, but forgive me! |
君に比べてしょぼくない? | kimi ni kurabete shobokunai? | Even if they say that I’m somewhat lame |
とか言われたってくじけない | toka iwareta tte kujikenai | When compared to you, I’ll never give up. |
焦り揺れる心でも | aseri yureru kokoro demo | I might be feeling impatient and uncertain, |
誰かのためになりたいから | dareka no tame ni naritai kara | But I still want to be of help to someone. |
景色を切り裂いて | keshiki o kirisaite | Cutting up the scenery, |
可能性が残した傷跡を | kanousei ga nokoshita kizuato o | If only I could gently stroke |
時計を気にせずに | tokei o ki ni sezu ni | The scars left by possibilities, |
優しく撫でたかったけれど | yasashiku nadetakatta keredo | Without caring about the clock... |
途切れ途切れの線を駆け抜けて | togire togire no sen o kakenukete | Dashing through the intermittent lines... |
君が見ていた街を結んでく線は | kimi ga mite ita machi o musundeku sen wa | It’s my duty to draw the line that connects |
僕が引かなくちゃ | boku ga hikanakucha | The cities you saw! |
マイペースで進む 追いつけずに止まる | maipeesu de susumu oitsukezu ni tomaru | I proceed at my own pace. I fail to catch up, and I stop. |
空っぽになればなるほど重くなる役目を貰う | karappo ni nareba naru hodo omoku naru yakume o morau | I’m given a responsibility that grows heavier the emptier I get. |
期待通りを走る僕は | kitaidoori o hashiru boku wa | Running down Kitai Avenue,[1] |
君を超えなくちゃ | kimi o koenakucha | I’ve really got to surpass you! |
違う声で進み新しい線を引く | chigau koe de susumi atarashii sen o hiku | I proceed with a different voice and draw a brand-new line. |
言葉を運び終えるまで | kotoba o hakobi oeru made | Until I finish conveying all my words, |
この街に停まる | kono machi ni tomaru | I will be stopping at this city. |

Translation Notes
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 1.2 The title, Kitaidoori, is a commonly used expression equivalent to something like “just as expected” in English. So the line “Running down Kitai Avenue, I’ve really got to become/surpass you!” can be also interpreted as “Running just as everyone hopes, I’ve really got to become/surpass you!”
