Japanese Romaji English
満ちては欠けるだけの日々が現実なら michite wa kakeru dake no hibi ga genjitsu nara If only these rising and waning days are truly reality,
過去と未来の間にいるのが僕らしい kako to mirai no aida ni iru no ga bokurashii then in between the past and future seems more like me.
耳を澄ませば聞こえて来る誰かの声 mimi o sumaseba kikoete kuru dareka no koe If I clear my ears, I can hear somebody's voice
「暇だからそろそろ影でも盗みに行こうか」 “hima dakara sorosoro kage demo nusumi ni ikou ka” "You've got some time to spare, so why don't you go and steal the shadows?"

月見泥棒とは上手く言ったものですね tsukimi dorobou to wa umaku itta mono desu ne "Tsukimi Thief"[1] has a certain ring to it, yes?
雲の切れ間に覗く白い光が笑う kumo no kirema ni nozoku shiroi hikari ga warau The white lights peeking through gaps in the clouds laugh.
限られた時間の中で生きていくのは kagirareta jikan no naka de ikiteiku no wa One who lives within a limited time,
脱兎の勢いで消えていく様なものなんだって datto no ikioi de kieteiku you na mono na n datte should disappear with lightning momentum.

月の唄に乗って夜の空へ飛び込んだ tsuki no uta ni notte yoru no sora e tobikonda Riding the song of the moon, I fly into the night sky.
無重力のダンスでもっともっと跳ね回れ mujuuryoku no dansu de motto motto hane maware In the dance of weightlessness, bouncing around more and more.
月のラビットにお願いを tsuki no rabitto ni onegai o I make a wish to the Moon Rabbit.
「巡る時を止めたいよ」 “meguru toki o tometai yo” "Please, stop time"
混ざる頭の中は夢で溢れてるの mazaru atama no naka wa yume de afureteru no Inside my mingling mind, it's overflowing with dreams.

月見かぐや 宵の中で tsukimi kaguya yoi no naka de A princess[2] viewing the moon in the evening.
響く音は 僕を呼ぶみたいだ hibiku oto wa boku o yobu mitai da The echoing sounds seem to call me.

兎に角行こう 映る先に tonikaku ikou utsuru saki ni Anyways, let's go before it's all reflected.
見えたものは 飾る水飛沫だ mieta mono wa kazaru mizu shibuki da The things I could see are decorated with a splash of water.

夜が明けたら君は何処へ? yoru ga aketara kimi wa doko e? When the night turns to dawn, where will you go?

月の波に乗って夜の海へ飛び込んだ tsuki no nami ni notte yoru no umi e tobikonda Riding the tides of the moon, I dive into the sea of the night.
立ち止まってる位ならさぁ走りだせ tachi domatteru kurai nara saa hashiri dase If you're still standing still, just run with it.
全く皆既なもんだ空に喚く幻想は mattaku kaiki na monda sora ni wameku gensou wa It's a complete totality, the illusions I scream into the sky
鮮やかに沈む周期の輪が溶けていく azayaka ni shizumu shuuki no wa ga toketeiku Brightly sink and melt into the lunar cycle.[3]

夜が明けたら君は何処へ? yoru ga aketara kimi wa doko e? When the night turns to dawn, where will you go?
消えた声は僕の中で kieta koe wa boku no naka de The disappeared voices are inside me.

月の揺れに酔って気づかぬ振りをしていた tsuki no yure ni yotte kidzukanu furi o shiteita Pretending not to realise my intoxication from the moon's swaying.
廻る世界が彼を迎えに来たようだ mawaru sekai ga kare o mukae ni kita you da It seems the spinning world has come around to meet him.
影を盗んだ天罰と朝になり昇る太陽 kage o nusunda tenbatsu to asa ni nari noboru taiyou Divine punishment from stealing shadows, the sun begins to rise and it becomes morning.
「いつかまた逢える日まで月にさよなら」 “itsuka mata aeru hi made tsuki ni sayonara” "Until the day we meet again, goodbye moon".

逃げる君を追って明けの空へ飛び込んだ nigeru kimi o otte ake no sora e tobikonda Chasing your escaping figure, I fly into the dawn sky.
「まだ君を見ていたいよ」 “mada kimi o mite itai yo” "I want to see you again"
混ざる頭の中は夢で溢れてるの mazaru atama no naka wa yume de afureteru no Inside my mingling mind, it's overflowing with dreams.

Translation Notes[]

  1. I've kept the title as 'Tsukimiyo Rabbit' (referring to the YouTube reprint title) rather than 'Moon Viewing Night Rabbit', as it is more aesthetically pleasing. Same reasoning for 'Tsukimi Thief'.
  2. 'Tsukimi kaguya' may be a reference to one of the oldest Japanese folktales in history, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. This tale surrounds a girl named Princess Kaguya and her experiences with the moon. Therefore, I thought 'A princess viewing the moon' would be an applicable translation. Here is the story if you're interested.
  3. 'Brightly sink and melt into the lunar cycle' only mentions a circular cycle, but I thought that going with the theme of the song, it should be translated as lunar cycle.
