Hazuki no Yume has requested past usages of her translations to be removed. We would normally respect the author's wishes to remove their work. However, given the circumstances under which the request was made, the fact that she previously gave us explicit permission to use her translations (see also Good faith), and the best interest of the fandom, we have decided against removing the translations and only replacing those where another translation of sufficient quality is available. If you have found such a translation and has been checked as accurate, please replace this one or leave a comment with a link to that translation so another editor can replace it.
Japanese | Romaji | English |
銀煙管から滾々と溢る | ginkiseru kara konkon to afuru | A swarm of butterflies, radiant with a ruby color, |
紅玉色に |
kougyokuiro ni teru chou no mure | gushes forth from the silver smoking pipe. |
両の翅を往復切符にし | ryou no hane o oufuku kippu ni shi | Using their double wings as my round-trip ticket, |
屋上発、銀河行きに乗ろう | okujouhatsu, gingayuki ni norou | I shall embark on a journey through the galaxy, departing from my rooftop. |
世界が不在のうちに汽車は |
sekai ga fuzai no uchi ni kisha wa momoyo, chiyo o kakeru | While the world is away, the train runs through a hundred nights, a thousand nights. |
幸福だけ発明し損ねた機械の国を背に | koufuku dake hatsumei shisokoneta kikai no kuni o se ni | I turn my back to this country of machines, where they failed to invent happiness, |
とみに |
tomi ni aya ni kanashikute natte | but suddenly, inexplicably, I became sad |
たまらずにゲラゲラ笑ったよ | tamarazu ni geragera waratta yo | and started roaring with laughter, unable to control myself. |
botan hodo no ookisa no jinkou no hoshi | Man-made stars, the size of buttons. | |
影法師、踊った | kageboushi, odotta | Dancing silhouettes. |
意味はないが意義はある | imi wa nai ga igi ga aru | It might be meaningless, but it has significance— |
そんな嘘みたいに生きる僕ら | sonna uso mitai ni ikiru bokura | such is the lie we tell ourselves while we go on living. |
流砂に埋まる鯨の肋骨 | ryuusa ni umaru kujira no rokkotsu | There's a whale skeleton buried in the quicksand, |
の中に巣食う |
no naka ni sukuu gamagaeru no mure | and a knot of toads is building a nest inside. |
しめやかに鳴る銀笛を吹けば | shimeyaka ni naru ginteki o fukeba | When I blow on the flageolet, which rings out with a sad, gentle sound, |
うぐいす色の瑪瑙に変わった | uguisuiro no menou ni kawatta | they turned into greenish-brown agate. |
それを渡し銭に、方舟は明け六つ空を往く | sore o watashisen ni, hakobune wa akemutsu sora o yuku | With that as my ferriage, the ark carries me through the sky at the sixth hour of the morning, |
希望という大病を患う合成樹脂の土地 | kibou to iu taibyou o wazurau gouseijuushi no tochi | over a land of plastics that is suffering from a severe disease called "hope." |
明日には忘れてるような | ashita ni wa wasureteru you na | By tomorrow, I probably would have forgotten about it, |
小さな最高を引き連れて | chiisana saikou o hikitsurete | but for now, I'm dragging along with me a tiny moment of the "best." |
死んだふりをした星の | shinda furi o shita hoshi no | Mud is falling out haphazardly from the old wounds |
古疵からしどろに散る泥土 | furukizu kara shidoro ni chiru deido | of this planet that's faking its own death. |
幸福は遠いけれど | koufuku wa tooi keredo | Happiness is still far away, |
僕らの出会いは幸運だろう | bokura no deai wa kouun darou | but our encounter should count as good luck, at least. |
はじまりから見ればすごく長いけれど | hajimari kara mireba sugoku nagai keredo | When you look at it from the beginning, it'd appear very long, |
おわりから振り返ればすごく短いこの行路 | owari kara furikaereba sugoku mijikai kono kouro | but when you look back from the end, this path turns out to be very short. |
朽ち枯死せずに咲いた | kuchi koshi sezu ni saita | I shall make a floral tribute to this dead planet |
残花を死んだ星への献花にし | zanka o shinda hoshi e no kenka ni shi | from the remaining blooms of flowers that refuse to wither and decay. |
失いながらでもこの冷たい鉄路は | ushinai nagara demo kono tsumetai tetsuro wa | Even as we lose much along the way, this steel-cold railway |
続くだろう | tsuzuku darou | shall continue onward. |
