特に、感受性が高い、上品、純粋、穢れていない、といった特徴をもつ女の子を指すとされる。	toku ni, kanjusei ga takai, jouhin, junsui, kegarete inai, to itta tokuchou o motsu onna no ko o sasu to sareru.	In particular, it refers to a young girl with such characteristics as high sensitivity, elegance, purity, and innocence.
「処女」と書いて「おとめ」と読むこともあり、そのまま処女を示唆することもある。	"shojo" to kaite "otome" to yomu koto mo ari, sono mama shojo o shisa suru koto mo aru.	"Otome" can also be written as "処女," meaning it also has an impication of virginity.
ダンス（蘭: dans、英: dance）は伴奏に合わせて演じられる一連の動作である[1]。ソロ、デュエットあるいは集団で演じられ、祭りや儀式の場においても行われる[2]。太古から神々への礼拝、国事の祝い、歴史の伝承、言葉を用いない権力への抵抗、戦闘前の行事といった役割から身体を動かして自己を表現し、感情的、精神的、肉体的に自らを称賛したり、労働の際に共同体の協力を得る手段としても、またあるものは長い年月を経て洗練された舞台芸術となっている[2]。	dansu (ran: dans, ei: dance) wa bansou ni awasete enjirareru ichiren no dousa de aru[1]. Soro, duetto arui wa shuudan de enjirare, matsuri ya gishiki no ba ni oite mo okonawareru[2]. Taiko kara kamigami e no reihai, kokuji no iwai, rekishi no denshou, kotoba o mochiinai kenryoku e no teikou, sentou mae no gyouji to itta yakuwari kara shintai o ugokashite jiko o hyougen shi, kanjouteki, seishinteki, nikutaiteki ni mizukara o shousan shitari, roudou no kiwa ni kyoudoutai no kyouryoku o eru shudan to shite mo, mata aru mono wa nagai toshitsuki o tate senren sareta butai geijutsu to natte iru[2].	"Dansu" (Dutch: dans, English: dance) is a series of movements performed to an accompaniment [1]. It can be performed solo, in duet, or in groups, and is also used in festivals and ceremonies [2]. Since ancient times, it has been used for worship of the gods, celebration of national events, transmission of history, resistance to power without words, and pre-battle events, to express oneself by moving the body, to praise oneself emotionally, mentally, and physically, as a means of obtaining community cooperation in labor, and as a performing art that has been refined over time[2].
日本では、はじめdanceの訳語として、舞（狭義の「ダンス」）と踏（「ステップ」）を組み合わせた舞踏（ぶとう）が使われた。しかし、坪内逍遥の「新楽劇論」（1904年（明治37年））で舞踊（ぶよう）という言葉が使われるようになり、現代ではこちらの方が一般的である。舞踊は、坪内逍遥と福地桜痴による造語で、日本の伝統的なダンスである舞（まい）と踊り（おどり）を組み合わせたものである。	Nihon dewa, hajime dance no yakugo to shite, mai (kyougi no "dansu") to tou ("suteppu") o kumi awaseta butou (butou) ga tsukawareta. Shikashi, Tsubouchi Shōyō no "Shingaku Gekiron" (1904 nen (Meiji 37 nen)) de buyou (buyou) to iu kotoba ga tsukawareru you ni nari, gendai dewa kochira no kata ga ippanteki de aru. Buyou wa, Tsubouchi Shōyō to Fukuchi Ōchi ni yoru zougo de, Nihon no dentouteki na dansu de aru mai (mai) to odori (odori) o kumi awaseta mono de aru.	In Japan, the word 舞踏 (butou) was first used as a translation of dance, as a combination of the words 舞 (bu) (in the narrow sense of the word, “dance”) and 踏 (tou) (in the narrow sense of the word, “step”). However, the term 舞踊 (buyou) came to be used in Tsubouchi Shōyō's “新楽劇論 (Shingaku Gekiron)” (1904 (Meiji 37)), and this term is more commonly used today. The word buyou was coined by Tsubouchi Shōyō and Fukuchi Ōchi, and is a combination of 舞 (bu) and 踊 (you), which are traditional Japanese dances.
