Lyrics

Japanese Romaji English
ぱらぱら散る 火薬の匂い parapara chiru kayaku no nioi The scent of gunpowder sprinkles down.
セメント越しの春 異常ナシ、私情アリ sementogoshi no haru ijou nashi, shijou ari The spring beyond the cement possesses no abnormalities, but definite sentiments.
「戻らないでしょ」どうしても "modoranai desho" doushite mo ”It’s probably not coming back,” no matter what;
穴ぼこだらけの 愛 なんて anaboko darake no ai nante this love that’s full of holes.

ほら また散る 火薬の匂い hora mata chiru kayaku no nioi Look, it’s coming down again; the scent of gunpowder.
剥がれた現実(リアル)と 思考回路哨戒 hagareta riaru to shikou kairo shoukai Reality peels away and I patrol my train of thought.
貴方は まだ夢のなか anata wa mada yume no naka You were still deep within a dream,
蠱毒(コドク)を抱えたまま kodoku o kakaeta mama carrying a deadly poison.

あの日こぼした命の余りが ano hi koboshita inochi no amari ga Since so much of it spilled out of me that day, I’ve spent the life I’ve got left
“ありがとう”などと喚いてる "arigatou" nado to wameiteru crying out words like “thank you”
         ・・・・ ・・・・ ・・・・
―ふざけんなよ もう息止まりさ fuzaken na yo mou ikitomari sa —Give me a break! I’ve already stopped breathing.

さらばトーチカ “許してくれ”とは言わないが saraba toochika "yurushite kure" to wa iwanai ga Farewell, Tochka. I won’t ask you to “forgive me,” but,
どうか その正義で僕を”吊るしてくれ”よ douka sono seigi de boku o" tsurushite kure" yo please, with that righteousness of yours, I want you to “hang me[2]” instead.
錯綜した終着点 お別れなのさ 僕ら sakusou shita shuuchakuten owakare nano sa bokura The ends have gotten complicated. This is where we bid goodbye
手向けた花と、火薬の匂い tamuketa hana to, kayaku no nioi to the tributed flowers and the scent of gunpowder.

さらば saraba Farewell,
トーチカ トーチカ toochika toochika Tochka, Tochka,
トーチカ 相のうた toochika ai no uta Tochka, a song of togetherness.

穴空け、埋め 奈落と光 ana ake, ume naraku to hikari We open a hole and bury them, the abyss and the light.
セメント越しの春 私情ナシ、異常アリ sementogoshi no haru shijou nashi, ijou ari The spring beyond the cement possesses no sentiments, but definite abnormalities.
目覚めた貴方 に刺す現実(リアル) mezameta anata ni sasu riaru The reality that stabs at you after you’ve woken up
命、穿つ、我侭 inochi, ugatsu, wagamama is a selfishness that bores into your life force.

ひとつの命を守る兵器が hitotsu no inochi o mamoru heiki ga Even if one life-saving weapon
何百の果実噛み砕いても nanbyaku no kajitsu kamikudaite mo could pulverize hundreds of fruits,[3]

ひとつの心を繋ぐ決意が hitotsu no kokoro o tsunagu ketsui ga even if the decision to imbue it with a heart
何千の火花をぶちまけても nansen no hibana o buchimakete mo could kick up thousands of sparks,

目覚めたひとつのそのてのひらが mezameta hitotsu no sono tenohira ga even if the single palm that woke up
正義を”()ろう”と叫んでも seigi o "shirou" to sakende mo calls out, “I’ll perform (realize)” justice,
        ・・・・・ ・・・・・ ・・・・・
夢見るなよ、僕は逝き損ないさ yumemiru na yo, boku wa ikisokonai sa don’t dream, since I’m just someone who failed to die.

だからトーチカ “解ってくれ”とは言わないが dakara toochika "wakatte kure" to wa iwanai ga And that’s why, Tochka, I won’t ask you to “understand,” but,
どうか その毒で僕を枯らしてくれよ douka sono doku de boku o karashite kure yo please, with that poison of yours, I want you to dry me up[4] instead.
ああ グロリア 焼失点 お別れなのさ 僕ら aa guroria shoushitten o wakare na no sa bokura Ah, Gloria, we’ve reached our combustion point. This is where we bid goodbye
手向けた花は、貴方の… tamuketa hana wa, anata no… to our tributed flowers, your…

だからどっちが 正しかろうと関係ないわ dakara docchi ga tadashikarou to kankeinai wa And that’s why it doesn’t matter which way is right!
どうか その兵器で僕をぶち抜いてよ douka sono heiki de boku o buchi nuite yo So please, with that weapon of yours, punch into me, all the way through.
最期の言葉が “ありがとう”などと喚くもんだから saigo no kotoba ga "arigatou" nado to wameku mon dakara The final words I cry out are things like “thank you,” after all,
―ふざけんなよ もうさよならなんだよ ―fuzaken na yo mou sayonara nanda yo —Give me a break! This is goodbye for good.

トーチカ トーチカ toochika toochika Tochka, Tochka,
トーチカ 愛のうた toochika ai no uta Tochka, a song of love.

Translation Notes

  1. Though Tochka in Japanese means pillbox (the military structure, not the medicinal storage device or the style of hat), it seems to be the smaller character’s name in the song, so I left the title as is. Incidentally, Точка just means “point” in Russian; it came to its Japanese meaning as an abbreviation of долговременная огневая точка, “long-term ignition point,” what is apparently the formal Russian name for a pillbox.
  2. The word used here, 吊るして, (tsurushite, ”hang me”) is a near-homophone with 許して, (yurushite, “forgive me”)
  3. The word choice here is literally 果実 and 噛み砕く, which mean “fruit” and “to crunch/chew” respectively (噛み砕く is also used to mean “to explain/simplify” or “to put in layman’s terms” and the like, though that meaning seems to make even less contextual sense). My guess is, given what’s going on in the PV here, that they’re both metaphors—“fruit” as in people, most likely, and “crunch” as in to decimate easily.
  4. Same idea as earlier, though the words don’t sound as similar—解って “wakatte” (to understand) and 枯らして “karashite” (to let dry, to kill vegetation via letting it dry out)
