Lyrics

Japanese Romaji English
執刀、 shittou, Surgery,[1]
今日も今日とて擦れた日々 kyou mo kyou tote sureta hibi The days are rubbed raw yet again today.
もう間違いだらけの細胞に mou machigai darake no saibou ni There’s been no salvation for my wildly flawed cells
現状はとうにもう救い無し genjou wa touni mou sukui nashi for a long time now.
そう悟った僕の伏せた目に sou satotta boku no fuseta me ni I understood that, as hopeless jumper suicides
どうにもならない飛び降り自殺と dou ni mo naranai tobiorijisatsu to and the meaningless news affecting helpful advice
何にも意味ないご意見番気取りのニュース nani ni mo imi nai goikenban kidori no nyuusu played back in my downcast eyes.

失笑 shisshou Snicker.
今日も今日とて萎えた日々 kyou mo kyou tote naeta hibi The days are withered yet again today.
さぁ助けて下さい拾う神 saa tasukete kudasai hirou kami Please save me now, silver lining[2]
なぁどうにもこうにも簡単に naa dou ni mo kou ni mo kantan ni You know, some lives
捨て逝く命があるもんだ sute iku inochi ga aru mon da are just thrown away so easily.
ご冥福をお祈りします。の gomeifuku o oinori shimasu. no May the departed rest in peace.
数分後には違う誰かのニュース suufungo ni wa chigau dareka no nyuusu Though, some minutes later, it’s someone else’s news.

その心臓を捨てるくらいなら sono shinzou o suteru kurai nara If you’re just going to throw that heart away,
じゃあ貸してって jaa kashite tte then just let me borrow it,
掻っ捌いて、掻っ切って、掻っ払って kassabaite, kakkitte, kapparatte cut it open, slice it up, snatch it away,
君の代わりに使うから kimi no kawari ni tsukau kara and use it on your behalf.

どんな未来(さき)だって donna saki datte No matter what the future holds,
今は泣いたって生きて生きたいよ ima wa naitatte ikite ikitai yo even if I cry now, I want to live and stay alive.
まだ生きたいの mada ikitai no I still want to live.
その臓1つで価値ある物だって sono zou hitotsu de kachi aru mono datte Even just that single organ has value.
そうだ僕が君を掬い出してあげる sou da boku ga kimi o sukuidashite ageru That’s right, I’ll bail you out.[3]

執刀、 shittou, Surgery,
手首バッサリ23時 tekubi bassari nijuusanji I slit my wrists at 11 p.m.
今鮮血失い何cc ima senketsu ushinai nan-cc How many ccs of blood have I lost now?
望んで生まれたわけじゃない nozonde umareta wake ja nai It’s not like I wished to be born.
もうこんな世界は恨んでるの? mou konna sekai wa uranderu no? Do I resent this world now?
どうにもならない、照らされてるのは dou ni mo naranai, terasareteru no wa There’s nothing to be done about what the light shines on.
どうにも勝てない特別な誰かのステージ dou ni mo katenai tokubetsu na dareka no suteeji There’s no way to win against that special someone’s stage.

繕った見た目 tsukurotta mitame A patchwork appearance,
醜い恥晒し、咲いた頭は雨ざらし minikui hajisarashi, saita atama wa amazarashi an ugly shame, a blooming head is exposed to the rain.
毎日の捌け口、粗探し mainichi no hakeguchi, arasagashi Always an outlet, nitpicking everything,
唸りあげる浅い正義心 unari ageru asai seigishin a roaring, shallow sense of justice.
君が欲しがった照明を kimi ga hoshigatta shoumei o Now I’ll hit you
今幾らでも当ててあげるから ima ikura demo atete ageru kara with all the light you wanted.[4]

さぁ手術台に上がってLiveを saa shujutsudai ni agatte Live o Now, let’s begin the live performance atop the operating table.
頭ん中真っ白くて、腹ん中真っ黒くて atamannaka masshirokute, harannaka makkurokute My mind is sheet blank, and my heart is pitch black.
なんとまぁエラくグロいんだ nanto maa eraku guroin da Oh, how erotic, and how grotesque.

どんな未来(さき)だって donna saki datte No matter what the future holds,
今が悲しくても ima ga kanashikute mo even if I’m sad now,
生きて生きたいよまだ生きたいの ikite ikitai yo mada ikitai no I want to live and stay alive. I still want to live.
幸か不幸なんて怯えなくたっていいよ kou ka fukou nante obienakutatte ii yo You don’t have to be afraid of good luck or misfortune.
誰かに値踏みされて良い命はない dareka ni nebumi sarete ii inochi wa nai No one can set a value on a good life.

ただ生きたいと思った命を tada ikitai to omotta inochi o I devoured and gorged myself on
貪り食い散らした musabori kuichirashita the life I’d thought I just wanted to live.
それでも死にたいと謳った soredemo shinitai to utatta Even then, I insisted that I wanted to die,
飽きずに媚びる様に akizu ni kobiru you ni tirelessly, as if to curry its favor.

もう無理だってその目を綴じた mou muri datte sono me o tojita Saying, “I’ve had enough,” you closed (bound) your eyes.
ならいいよ、おやすみよ nara ii yo, oyasumi yo All right then, good night.
勇気を出して減らず口縫って yuuki o dashite herazuguchi nutte I’ll summon my courage, weave the last word,
僕が君を救い出してあげる boku ga kimi o sukuidashite ageru and rescue you.

いつだって怖くない、だって itsu datte kowaku nai, datte I’m never afraid now, because
僕は生きたいよ、まだ生きたいの boku wa ikitai yo, mada ikitai no I want to live. I still want to live.
その身1つで価値ある者だって sono mi hitotsu de kachi aru mono datte Even just this single body has value.
そうだ、僕が君に代わり生きていこう sou da, boku ga kimi ni kawari ikite ikou That’s right, I’m going to live on your behalf.

Translation Notes

  1. There isn’t really an equivalent word in English, though 執刀 as a noun specifically means “the performance of a surgical operation” and the dictionary definition is “wielding a scalpel for the sake of performing procedures such as surgical operations or autopsies.”
  2. 拾う神 literally means “god that picks up,” but it comes from the proverb 捨てる神あれば拾う神あり which translates to something like “For every god that abandons you, there is another that will take you in.” Similar sayings in English include “When one door shuts, another opens” and “Every dark cloud has a silver lining.”

The line さぁ助けて下さい拾う神 therefore literally translates to “Please save me now, god that will take me in.” As that reference would be lost in English, I used “silver lining” instead, hoping that English speakers would be able to make the connection.
  3. This refers to bailing out a ship or a boat, as in, scooping the water out with a bucket or something. It’s a homophone with 救い出す, “to rescue” or “to free.”
  4. 照明 means “lighting” or “illumination,” as in set lighting for a play/movie/etc. I left it as simply “light” instead of something more specific like “spotlights” because I’m pretty sure this line references the earlier line “There’s nothing to be done about what the light shines on,” and I wanted to use the same word.
