Japanese Romaji English
繚乱する奥の間から目指す昇華 ryouran suru kuma no ma kara mezasu shouka Sublime, from a room hidden and unruly, as so while,
気付けばもう既に一切の不安も恐れも無く kizukeba mou sude ni issai no fuan mo osore mo naku Your worries and fears vanish towards the past, forgotten fast,
ほらその手の蘭 hora sono te no ran In your hands are orchids[1]
翳して舞え kazashite mae So raise them and dance,
大江戸乱舞 ooedo ranbu Ooedo Ranvu!

咲かせ咲かせや葵の花 sakase sakase ya aoi no hana Let bloom and bloom, merry mallows[2]

月を誘え西の方 tsuki o izanae nishi no kata Let it flow and entice the moon westwards
女が狂わし浮世の矢狭間 onna ga kuruwashi ukiyo no yahazama Oh, the rousing girls behind those earthly arrowslits[4]
御江戸は万世 ooedo wa manse Edo, how eternal

こちとら酸いも甘いも、 苦いのまでも承知 kochitora sui mo amai mo, nigai no made mo shouchi We shall embrace the sour, sweet, and the bitterness of it all
故にこの望みも少し不条理 yueni kono nozomi mo sukoshi fujouri Then this wish is just a tad senseless, after all
恐れる様になった奥の女子(おなご) osoreru youni natta oku no onago Here's a girl who appears to have cold feet as she began
脱がす(はかま) 次は男を堪能 nugasu hakama tsugi wa otoko o tannou Who has already dropped her dress, then to ravish her man,
幾重もの困難屠る猛者だけが ikue mono konnan hofuru mo sa dake ga But only the crazed who slash these fears through and more,
歩けるこの道は御鈴廊下(おすずろうか) arukeru kono michi wa osuzurouka Strides through this road the royal corridor;
何処の馬の骨だその差金は doko no uma no hone da sono sashigane wa Now who is he, insolent brute - this is mine to defile[5]
まぁまず、罪の重さを maa mazu, tsumi no omosa o Well humor me, do weigh your crimes
自分の目で確かめな jibun no me de tashikame na with your own two eyes

のってけ今日 日前線 女の御宮 notteke kyoubi zensen onna no omiya Let us ride, frontlines of our dreams, the maidens' shrine!

ただ確かな愛 最初から 毛頭ない女子達は tada tashikana ai hanakara moutounai onagotachi wa What one may call love, tender and genuine, void in these girls since the start

References

  1. Since this song's Japanese is archaic not commonly used today, I decided it was appropriate that I use equally archaic and literary English in the translation. Since this is rap, I've tried to include some rhymes so the translation doesn't deviate too much from the spirit of the song.
  2. From the original lyrics it is clear that this song is satirically degrading of women, and that it has a lamenting, angsty tone. I think you can understand what historical references this song uses to do what it tries to do, if you read briefly about Ukiyo (浮世), Yoshiwara (吉原), or any of the archaic vocabulary that you may notice in the original.
  1. Orchids are historically associated with sexuality and virility.
  2. Mallows are historically associated with love and good health.
  3. 園 means garden, and the allegorical subtext of the song is similar to that of the story of the garden of Eden. So I've translated this as "paradise", to better fit the depiction about how unsightly humans are when they experience "heaven on Earth". It is important to remember however, that this song has no Christian symbolism whatsoever.
  4. Back in the Edo period, courtesans were displayed high up a relatively tall structure for every potential customer to see, as if they were arrowslits of castles.
  5. There is no lyrics explicitly saying "This is mine to defile", however the phrase 何処の馬の骨だ is a classic phrase used to question your wife, your girlfriend or any woman who you doubt has another man she's involved with. To nail the imagery of men greedy for a night, I've added this phrase.
  6. Gentians are historically associated with sweetness and charm.
  7. A paramour is someone else's wife.
