Notes[]
- ↑ The title itself is a pun, combining the words uta "song", utakata "bubble; ephemeral, transient" and katasutorofii "catastrophe".
- ↑ いろはにほへと (irohanihoheto) is the opening line of the classical Japanese poem Iroha from the Heian period (794-1185), marked by the theme of transience.
- ↑ Another line taken directly from the Iroha, on the theme of being free from worldly desires.
- ↑ This is a sort of pun stringing together naku (to cry) and different forms of nai (to not be) creating a convoluted triple-negative. Another way it can be read is „Your reason to live will stop not being non-existent“, bringing to mind the paradoxical riddles of Zen Buddhism (koan) and non-existence as a major point of interest in Buddhist philosophy in general.
- ↑ An old Japanese unit of time. One koku consists of roughly two hours, so this would effectively mean four hours. A less literal translation is given instead.
- ↑ An old Japanese unit of measurement. The value corresponds to roughly 170 cm, the average Japanese height.
- ↑ A Japanese proverb meaning every moment is precious.
