心 奥底は子供のよーで | kokoro okusoko wa kodomo no yoo de | The depths of your heart are those of a brat; |
カッと なって 膨らんで | katto natte fukurande | They swell up as you blow up— |
ぐっと抑えて | gutto osaete | Try and squelch that urge; |
割れた耐えた冴えた頭 | wareta taeta saeta atama | Went cracked, you endured, you’ve got a cool head. |
荒れた反吐は捨てアカで書こうか? | areta hedo wa suteaka de kakou ka? | Shall we blow off steam on a throwaway account? |
それもだめか | sore mo dame ka | No chance, huh. |
垂れた文は喉で溺れて | tareta bun wa nodo de oborete | The hung sentences have drowned at the throat. |
漏れかけた言葉堪え | morekaketa kotoba korae | Suppress the words that almost leaked out |
空へ逸らせ「大人だから」 | sora e sorase ‘otona dakara’ | And shoot them to the sky ‘because you’re a grown-up!’ |

Translation Notes[]
This song engages in a very interesting wordplay, which I tried imitating in my translation as well. If you’re currently like “yo, what the hell is that wordplay all about,” I’d like to remind you of the existence of the novel A Void, and look at this song’s title once again.
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 The title can be interpreted in at least two ways: “A Promise That the Letter ‘I’ Is Not Here” and “A Promise That I Won’t Say That.” I chose to translate it this way because, as far as I know, “go there” sometimes means “talk about a certain subject” (when used like “Don’t go there”)?
- ↑ The subject of this line is technically “I” instead of “you.”
- ↑ Literally, it’s more like “Cramming fruit into one’s mouth.”
- ↑ 焼石に油 (yakeishi ni abura; lit. oil on the burning rock) reminds me of the proverb 焼石に水 (yakeishi ni mizu; lit. (pouring) water on a burning rock), which is roughly equivalent to the English “a drop in the bucket,” but I guess it’s used more like “add oil to the fire” here?
- ↑ There’s no telling if this アイ (ai) refers to the English first-pronoun “I” or the Japanese ai which means love, or even AI, artificial intelligence.
