Is it necessary to join the Discord to receive updates on the state of the wiki (specifically updates about this topic because it's major)? I'm hesitant to join external group chats for projects hosted on websites that already have discussion features. Then again, I'm hesitant to join Discord servers/give out my Discord information in general. Maybe it's just a me thing.

@Lunari162 Unfortunately, there are limitations to what we can discuss on Fandom. You could create a throwaway account to join the discord if this is a privacy thing. If this is about not using Discord, if you have DMs open on other sites (Reddit, Tumblr, etc.) and you're fine with being DM'd, I can let you know there?

Also, to the admins, this is super minor, so I get if you don't want to go through the hassle, but how about changing the current popup announcement about checking out the Basics of Editing page to one about the current edit freeze instead?

Got it. It's not exactly a privacy thing, I do have Discord and Tumblr and various social media. I just prefer not to affiliate with the inner workings of groups/projects. I'm very reclusive ^^; Consequently, I interact with VLW in a very surface-level way and only pay attention to things that make it into my Notifications bar (which is where my question came from. I was just hoping major updates would be announced here, but I understand why they won't be).

I'd rather be in the dark than join the Discord server. The thought is too daunting for my anxiety lol... Don't worry about updating me separately, I wouldn't want to cause you/admins further inconvenience when you're already probably dealing with a lot behind the scenes. While working out how to deal with Fandom's dilemma about hosting lyrics, it was inappropriate to discuss things in public, especially when we were still discussing options. I believe we're most of the way to a solution but still working on some aspects. I expect that when things have been figured out definitively, there will be more informative communication. Sorry for delay but this isn't a job, we're all volunteering spare time.

The only thing at the moment is that there's no guarantee that edits since the announcement won't be undone. I'm in the same boat. Personally I'm keeping a record in a file on my computer of the edits I want to make (like romaji fixes, improvements to my translations, even new songs). When we're back in action, I'll update everything then.

@ElectricRaichu I wasn't trying to imply this was a job. I know everyone here is a volunteer. I only wanted to know if updates, whenever they do come up, would be announced here as well (since not being in the server means I'm unaware if any updates did already happen and weren't announced here, so I wanted to ask for context/clarity). If I knew asking would be offensive, I wouldn't have asked. I'm sorry, genuinely.

I've also been keeping a backlog of edits to make. I still had a translation to submit, too, so I look forward to that system hopefully coming back (it's fine if it doesn't).

I think an announcement is definitely going to be made once everything gets sorted out. Though, again, since there are limitations to what can be discussed on Fandom, I'm not sure if that announcement will be allowed to stay up.

As it is, it really might be easier if I just DM you a quick update. It'd just be one message, and I think, from there, you'll probably be able to keep track of updates yourself.

@Lunari162 Everything you said is reasonable and nothing is offensive. My understanding is that an overall approach has been decided about our response to our host's unfortunate situation, but there are a lot of details left. I expect (at least I certainly hope) announcements will be made once details are finalized. My point that people can only work as time permits is to say that it will take time. We're all affected and find it frustrating, but we need to accept reality and exercise some patience.
